Lecture recorder

Record your lecture. We turn the messy transcript into clean notes.

Hit record in class (or upload a recording you already have). The AI transcribes the audio, strips the fillers and false starts, and structures the material into headings, bullets, and bolded key terms. A real note you can study from — saved to your library, organized by class.

Record your lecture. We turn the messy transcript into clean notes.

How it works

Three steps. Done in 60 seconds.

1

Hit record (or upload existing)

Live recording from your laptop or phone, or drag in a file you recorded somewhere else. Works with .webm, .mp4, .m4a, .mp3, .wav — anything Whisper supports.

2

AI transcribes the audio

We use Whisper for transcription — handles different accents, noisy lecture halls, and technical terminology well. Typical 60-min lecture transcribes in ~15 seconds.

3

Raw transcript becomes a structured note

Filler words ("um", "so", "like") stripped. Off-topic asides removed. Real content reorganized into H2 sections, bullet lists, bolded key terms. Saved as a fresh note in your library, tagged to the class.

Why it works

Built for actual studying, not just demos.

Cheap fast transcription

Backed by Groq's Whisper-Turbo (the same Whisper model OpenAI uses, just on faster hardware). A 60-minute lecture transcribes in ~15 seconds and costs us pennies — savings we pass on.

Stripped of filler, kept the content

The AI explicitly drops housekeeping ("any questions?", attendance, deadline reminders) and keeps the substantive material. Reads like notes from a friend who paid attention.

Tagged to your classes

Optional class selector on upload. Notes auto-organize by class color and show up in the right buckets across the app.

Up to 100 minutes per recording

32 kbps mono encoding means a full 90-minute lecture fits inside Whisper's 25 MB limit. Longer lectures? Coming soon (chunked upload).

Mobile recording works

Recorder works on iOS and Android browsers — record from your phone in the back of class. No app install needed.

Counts against the budget, but fairly

Each lecture costs ~$0.15 of AI compute (after our cost optimizations). Inside the $5/month cap you can record 30+ lectures. Plenty for a real semester.

vs alternatives

Why students switch to StudentHubAI

Otter.ai ($17/mo)Transcribes but doesn't structure into study notes. You get a wall of text to re-organize yourself. Expensive and not college-focused.
Notta / FirefliesBuilt for meetings, not lectures. No notion of classes, no AI cleanup into headings/bullets, no integration with flashcards or practice tests.
Recording on your phone + ChatGPTManual upload, copy-paste back and forth, no class organization, no auto-save to a library. Workable but tedious.
Just taking notes by handFalls behind on rapid lectures, misses examples, can't capture exact wording for definitions. Half your attention on writing instead of listening.

FAQ

Common questions

How long can the recording be?+

Up to about 100 minutes per recording at our 32 kbps mono compression (Whisper's 25 MB file cap). That covers any single class meeting. For multi-hour seminars or full days of lectures, split into multiple recordings — chunked upload is coming.

Is it accurate for technical lectures?+

Whisper handles technical terminology well — math terms, chemistry compounds, programming languages. The AI cleanup pass preserves exact wording for definitions and equations rather than paraphrasing.

Does it record from my phone?+

Yes — works in mobile browsers on iOS Safari and Chrome on Android. Just open studenthubai.app in your phone browser, go to Record Lecture, and hit start. No app install.

Can my professor tell I'm recording?+

Browsers show a recording indicator in the tab. We don't broadcast or share — it's between you and your device. Recording policies vary by school and professor — check yours.

Do you keep the original audio file?+

Right now, no. We transcribe the audio, save the structured notes, and discard the source file. Storing audio is on our roadmap (so you can re-listen while studying), but right now we keep your storage clean.

What if I already have an audio file?+

Upload it. The same flow works for any audio file under 25 MB — recordings from Voice Memos, Zoom audio exports, podcast clips you want to study, etc.

What's the pricing?+

$5.99/month for everything: lecture notes + AI homework helper + flashcards + practice tests + study guides + podcast + essay tools + calendar + tutor. 7-day free trial, no credit card.
